If your business turns out offcuts, swarf, old stock or worn-out equipment, that metal has value. Most workshops and builders already sell their scrap, and the ones who get the most for it keep the metals apart on site.
Separate the valuable metals. Copper, brass, aluminium and stainless steel are each worth far more than steel, but mixed into a steel bin they're paid at the steel price. A small bin or drum for each one, close to where the offcuts are made, earns more than one big mixed bin.
Size the bins to your output. A one-person workshop might keep one bin and call us when it's full. A busy fabrication shop might want a swap on a set day each week. Tell us which metals you produce and how fast, and we'll set it up.
Keep swarf dry and drained. Turnings and shavings from machining are bought too, as long as they're drained of oil and kept apart by metal, as brass swarf with steel in it is paid at a lower rate.
Keep the weigh tickets. Every load is weighed at our Hallam yard and comes with a weigh ticket showing the metal and its weight. With the end of the financial year coming up, those tickets are a simple record of what you've sold and recycled. Your accountant can tell you how to treat the income.
Every load is paid by bank transfer, as scrap metal dealers in Victoria can't pay in cash.
We work with fabricators and engineering shops, builders and demolition crews, plumbers, electricians and air-con installers, mechanics and panel shops, manufacturers and farms. If you're not sure your metal is worth collecting, ask us.
