What We Buy

Mixed Scrap Aluminium

Sheet, castings, ladders, pots and pans, boat parts and cans. Alloy mix is the aluminium that isn't extrusion or wheels, and it's worth far more than steel, so keep it out of the steel pile.

Overview

One Price for Mixed Aluminium

Alloy mix is the aluminium that isn't clean extrusion or wheels: sheet and plate, castings, ladders, old pots and pans, boat and caravan parts, and cans. It's all paid at one price, so there's no need to sort it into grades.

It does need to be aluminium. Keep steel, plastic, rubber and timber out of it, and take off steel bolts and brackets where you can. Window and door frames are worth more as extrusion, so keep them separate.

What Goes In

  • Sheet & Plate

Sheet, plate, roofing, cladding and signs.

  • Cast Aluminium

Gearbox housings, lawn mower decks, pump bodies and other castings.

  • Household Aluminium

Ladders, pots and pans, outdoor furniture, and boat and caravan parts.

  • Cans

Drink cans, crushed or loose. Cans that are eligible for a CDS Vic refund are worth more there.

How It Works

Selling scrap at our Hallam yard takes a few minutes.

  1. Bring it in

Bring your scrap to our Hallam yard in the car, ute or trailer. For bigger loads, we can collect.

  2. We sort and weigh it

We sort your metal by grade and weigh each grade on its own, so every kilo is paid at the right price.

  3. Show your ID

Victorian law requires us to record photo ID from everyone who sells us scrap metal.

  4. Get paid

We pay by bank transfer, as scrap metal dealers in Victoria can't pay in cash. Bring your BSB and account number.

What We Buy

Not sure it's aluminium? It's light, silver-grey and a magnet won't stick to it. Stainless steel looks similar but is much heavier.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about selling mixed scrap aluminium.

Extrusion is clean window frames, door frames and other long sections, and it's paid at a higher price. Alloy mix is the rest of your aluminium. Keep the two apart and you'll be paid more for the extrusion.

Eligible drink cans earn a 10c refund each through CDS Vic, Victoria's container deposit scheme, which is far more than they're worth as scrap. We'll take cans that aren't eligible, along with your other aluminium.

A few screws won't hurt, but bolts, brackets and steel inserts left on lower the price of the load. A magnet will find them: it sticks to steel, not aluminium.

Weight is the giveaway: aluminium is about a third as heavy as steel. A magnet usually won't stick to either, but stainless steel is much heavier for its size.

By bank transfer, once your metal is weighed. Scrap metal dealers in Victoria can't pay in cash, and we need to see your photo ID.
