What We Buy

Scrap Aluminium Engines

Aluminium engines from cars, utes, motorbikes, outboards and mowers. Scrap yards call them white engines, and we buy them whole, so there's no need to strip them.

Overview

White Means Aluminium

A white engine is an engine with an aluminium block, as many car engines and most motorbike, outboard and small engines are. The name sets it apart from a cast iron engine, which is dark grey and much heavier.

We buy them whole, at their own price, which allows for the steel crankshaft, valves and bolts inside. Drain the oil, fuel and coolant, take off anything that isn't part of the engine, and bring it in.

How It Works

Selling scrap at our Hallam yard takes a few minutes.

  1. Bring it in

Bring your scrap to our Hallam yard in the car, ute or trailer. For bigger loads, we can collect.

  2. We sort and weigh it

We sort your metal by grade and weigh each grade on its own, so every kilo is paid at the right price.

  3. Show your ID

Victorian law requires us to record photo ID from everyone who sells us scrap metal.

  4. Get paid

We pay by bank transfer, as scrap metal dealers in Victoria can't pay in cash. Bring your BSB and account number.

Getting Them Ready

Not sure it's aluminium? A magnet won't stick to a flat part of the block, away from the bolts, and it's lighter than a cast iron engine of the same size.

We buy

  • Aluminium car and ute engines
  • Motorbike and scooter engines
  • Outboard motors
  • Mower, generator and pump engines
  • Seized, cracked and blown engines

Keep out

  • Oil, fuel and coolant: drain them first
  • Batteries and fuel tanks
  • LPG tanks and gas bottles
  • Cast iron engines: they're a different grade

Try a magnet on a flat part of the block, away from the bolts. It won't stick to aluminium, but it will to cast iron. Aluminium engines are also much lighter for their size.

Yes. Drain the oil, fuel and coolant before you come in. They're hazardous waste, and engines that still hold them can't go in with the scrap.

Yes. Seized, cracked or blown, we pay for the metal, so it makes no difference whether an engine runs.
