What We Buy

Scrap Aluminium Extrusion

Old window and door frames, flyscreen frames, shopfront sections and extrusion offcuts. Clean alloy extrusion is the best-paying grade of aluminium, so it's worth keeping apart from the rest.

Overview

Clean Extrusion Pays Best

Extrusion is aluminium pushed through a die into a long section that's the same shape all the way along. Window and door frames, flyscreen and shower screen frames, shopfronts and handrails are all made from it. Scrap yards call it alloy extrusion, and it's one of the cleanest grades of aluminium.

It has its own price, well above mixed aluminium, as long as it's clean. Glass, rubber seals, plastic inserts, timber and steel screws all count against it, so strip them off before you come in. Extrusion that still has them on is paid at a lower grade.

Grades We Buy

  • Clean Extrusion

Window, door and flyscreen frames and other sections with the glass, rubber, plastic and steel screws removed. The best price.

  • Painted Extrusion

Powder-coated, painted and anodised frames and sections, stripped the same way as bare ones.

  • Offcuts & Sections

Offcuts from fabricators and window installers, and lengths of aluminium tube, angle and channel.

  • Thermally Broken Frames

Double-glazed frames with a plastic strip joining the inner and outer sections. Paid at a lower grade unless the plastic is cut out.

How It Works

Selling scrap at our Hallam yard takes a few minutes.

  1. Bring it in

Bring your scrap to our Hallam yard in the car, ute or trailer. For bigger loads, we can collect.

  2. We sort and weigh it

We sort your metal by grade and weigh each grade on its own, so every kilo is paid at the right price.

  3. Show your ID

Victorian law requires us to record photo ID from everyone who sells us scrap metal.

  4. Get paid

We pay by bank transfer, as scrap metal dealers in Victoria can't pay in cash. Bring your BSB and account number.

Before You Bring It In

Not sure it's aluminium? It's light and a magnet won't stick to it. Steel screws, hinges and brackets will, which makes them easy to find and take off.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about selling scrap aluminium extrusion.

If you can. Frames with the glass, rubber and screws removed are paid as clean extrusion, the best price, and broken glass is a hazard in the yard.

Extrusion is the long, even sections that frames and profiles are made from. Alloy mix is the rest of your aluminium, such as sheet, castings, and pots and pans. Keep the two apart, and the extrusion is paid at its own, higher price.

Yes. Coated and anodised frames are still extrusion. Strip off the glass, rubber, plastic and steel, as you would for bare frames.

Use a magnet: it sticks to steel but not to aluminium. Aluminium is also much lighter, about a third of the weight of steel.

By bank transfer, once your metal is weighed. Scrap metal dealers in Victoria can't pay in cash, and we need to see your photo ID.
